Write shorter emails – increase your change to be heard
By Antti Haverinen Jan 22nd, 2010SMSs have been taught us to keep our communication as brief as possible. It proves how our emails could be more understandable and brief but comprehensive too.
The idea of re-considering emails was taken from a site name Sentenc.es – A Disciplined Way To Deal With Email. The author of the site has been horrified about the current emailing culture. We are snowing under emails. Our inboxes are full of unfinished thoughts.
However, the site argues, how one can solve this by using the simplest idea.
“Treat all email responses like SMS text messages, using a set number of letters per response. Since it’s too hard to count letters, we count sentences instead.”
How “more shorter emails”-principle works in reality?
As usually, there are no shortcuts. Next time when emailing try to adopt this idea.
Your benefits could be huge. Think of your changes to be heard when you could briefly tell about you, your wishes to a recipient by giving an idea of next action.
Personally, I have recently shifted from making long notes into “more concise writings”-mode. I’ve found it useful.
